Our Facilities

Hill House residential care home consists of twenty single bedrooms, all of which have ensuite facilities.  Set in a gracious Georgian manor house, set in two thirds of an acre and a short distance from the historic Roman town of Colchester.  Whether you are looking for a peaceful or stimulating day, Hill house is sure to be your perfect choice.

Make your home at Hill House

We understand that for most of our lives we enjoy the security, privacy, independence and comfort that comes from living on our own homes.  But we may reach a time when we need to look for support and care from others.  At Hill House we offer you a safe and friendly environment where trained staff are ready to assist you 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.  This enables you to enhance and enjoy your quality of life.

The rooms at Hill House are furnished to the very highest standard and all have ensuite facilities.  They have points for television as well as telephone.  We always welcome individuality and encourage residents to bring as many personal possessions like ornaments or furniture to make their room feel very individual and more like the home you remember.

All of the rooms are unique and of different sizes, with individual layouts.

Meeting your specific needs and requirements

At Hill House your needs are our concern.  Hill House provides aids and equipment to ease your daily routine and meet your special requirements.  General facilities include a passenger lift servicing all floors, in-house laundering (apart from specialist or dry-cleaning), lockable facilities in all bedrooms and of course a lock for your own room.  Should you prefer, you can also ask for your valuables to be kept in the main house safe.

You will find that Hill House has an extensive range of specialist equipment to cater for particular needs of residents.  Including an assisted power-operated bath, assisted showers, electric height-adjustable and reclining beds just to name a few.  We also have a weekly hairdresser pop-in; although you are free to invite your own if you wish or have your key-worker attend to your hair.

We also have a chiropodist who regularly comes to Hill House for appointments.  You can retain your own GP, but if this is not possible for whatever reason, Hill House can offer you a choice of doctors who attend to resident of the home already.  We ensure the continuity of daily care through a hand-over system during shift changes, when residents’ current needs are discussed and arranged.

At Hill House you will find accessibility throughout, including the public, private rooms and the gardens.

The Manager Denise Peach is supported by a whole range of devoted staff including the full-time Deputy Manager, senior care staff, care assistants, chefs, domestics and a gardener/maintenance man.

Qualified care staff are always there for you.  They are on-duty day and night and all of them have been selected to deliver sensitive and skilful care.  Many of the staff have worked at Hill House for a number of years, live locally and are familiar with the area, which we understand residents often find reassuring.

The housekeeping team works especially hard to maintain the highest standards of cleanliness throughout the home.  The night staff check and secure the building each night and will make hourly checks to ensure you are comfortable, if you wish.  Residents have nurse buttons in their room so they can always call for immediate assistance if required.

Socialising and keeping active

Your family and friend are always welcome to Hill House.  Tea, coffee and a never-ending supply of biscuits are always available.  You can entertain visitors in your room, chat in the secluded visitors’ lounge, or on the terrace, or even take a stroll with them in the gardens.

Residents can come or go freely.  Residents often join friends and family on day’s out, excursions and meals.  At Hill House you will also have lots of opportunity to make new friends with other residents and the friendly staff are always on hand for a chat.

Whether you are looking for peace, quiet and relaxation, or a more stimulating life, you will never be short of entertainment and things to do at Hill House.

If the weather is warm enough, you can always take some fresh air and a cup of tea in the wheelchair accessible terrace area.

If you are a keen gardener you may wish to adopt an area in the garden to look after.  At Ayletts we will never hold you back and you are encouraged to develop and pursue any hobbies or interests that you have.

Optional activities to make the most out of life

The activities co-ordinator at Hill House will always ensure that you are invited to join our events, excursions and any other activities that take place, however your decision to take part or not will always be respected.

The home has its own minibus and residents often visit local theatres and pubs, go on shopping trips or have outings to the parks, gardens, country houses and many other places of interest.

There is also a bus stop directly outside the home with regular services to the local and wider area, as well as a train station which is on the London Liverpool Street line.

Within the house we arrange sing-a-longs, musical evenings, cheese and wine parties, fish and chip suppers, quiz nights and bingo.  New ideas are always welcome!
